Move towards equality an outcome of capitalism, economy and labour is seen as gender reliant and therefore the change has been slower to appear. Girls in primary school completion rates are below 50% in most poor countries. Pregnancy and childbirth related complications are the number one killers of girls aged. 1/7 girls in developing countries is married before age 15, 38% before age 18. In sub-saharan africa, more women than men are living with hiv, and young women aged 15-24 years are as much as 8x more likely than men to be hiv+ Women and girls make up 80% of the estimated 800,000 people trafficked across national borders annually with the majority (79%) trafficked for sexual exploitation. While males are more at risk for suicide, self-cutting is on the rise among girls; jumping from 91 hospitalizations in 2009-2010, to 173 in 2013-2014.
