It started in 1871 (almost nobody lived in a nuclear family) because of the victorian era, first time ever that the hegemonic family was the nuclear family. Answer census according to the nuclear family, heterosexual couple, with a marriage contract with or without children. Defining family in terms of family ties is highly narrow: different variances within different people. Family is more then just your blood and legal ties, your family members: cultural variations, nuclear vs extended. Nuclear families emerged in the victorian era. Middle class first class to evolve into nuclear families. Everyone was middle class (meaning being very rich but they are not royal) Royal family still lives in an extended family unit. Working class people are told that this is what the family looks like (nuclear way) In 1950"s the suburbs were formed (nuclear families created) Some people still live in extended families to save money: monogamy vs polygamy. Polygyny: 1 man and multiple women (sister wives)
