Orthodox islam= emphasis on divine retribution & punishment. Conservative muslims reject music--- music associate with sexual passions. Sufism is important for muslim women : important expression of faith for many muslim women, important social & religious space for women, women as saints, devotees, participants, women"s bodies are key site of struggle between different groups of muslims. Examines the social, psychological, & economic significance of saints" shrines for poor women, working class women, & rural women. Many muslim patriarchal societies visit to & involvement with saints & sanctuaries are 2 rare options left to women to shape their world & their lives.
