Indigenous women have unanimously identified settler colonialism as a root cause of all forms of violence against indigenous women and girls. Indigenous women are apprx 3. 5x more likely to experience some form of spousal violence than non-indigenous women: 88% of missing and murdered indigenous women in ontario were mothers. Indigenous women make up only 1. 2% of ontario"s population, and yet make up 6% of female homicide victims. Indigenous women and girls are more likely to be killed by a stranger than non- indigenous women and girls 17% of those charged were strangers.
