Maya geography: maya region includes southern mexico, guatemala, belize, & the eastern reaches of honduras and el salvador, two basic divisions, lowlands (northern area, including all of the yucatan peninsula and half of guatemala, highlands (areas south of lowlands). Popol vuh: maya religion, as we know it, is based primarily on the document called the popol vuh, this is a creation myth of the highland maya that was recorded in the 16th century by spanish friars. Regional variation: popol vuh likely only represents one local version of the creation myth, latter sections of the popol vuh are k"ich -specific, including lists of important local families, classic period scripts from different regions sometimes offer variants of the same stories. Ball game: ball game was played throughout mesoamerica, similar to soccer, but without the ability to kick the ball, teams scored by passing the ball through a hoop.
