Created by statute (rcmp/police is created under the same statute but different acts govern behaviours, that"s why it gets murky, who governs whom) Private security services (for business) hired out to individuals. Para-police officers (police specific area, housed in community) Policing in a democratic society (freedom, fairness, equality, governmental control but also society has power) Formal equality- everyone"s equal in front of the law. Substantive equality- even it out in the long run, give disadvantage people more advantage. Crime control model- protect society, get rid of crime as quickly as possible. Order maintenance- maintaining order but also making sure people abide by the law and engage in social world. Detained for 48 hours (when detained your rights are not read to you, taken control of physical movement)
