Central nervous system: brain & spinal cord. Spinal cord is a bridge between the brain and parts of the th body below the neck. Spinal nerves are part of the peripheral nervous system. 31 pairs, each connected the spinal cord and pertain to a specific body area. These enrves are protected by the hard spinal column. The nerves are made out of sensory and motor fibres. Touching a hot stove, pull hand back, no need to take time to route through the brain. Nervous system: cns is brain and spinal cord, pns is everything outside of the brain/nervous system. Voluntary movement of skeletal mucles: bundle of axons. Efferent move towards pns: some places in body only has a single nerve, while others have bundle of nerves, mature nerve cells do not go through cell division neuronso ns made up of. Neurons (nerve cells): cells that conduct electro-chemical signals. Glia (or glial) cells: cells that support, nurture, and insulate neurons.
