Primary socialization- the socialization that occurs during childhood (shorter life span) Secondary socialization - the socialization that occurs later in life (whole life) Refers to the degree to which a person"s behavior / attitude or other personal characters are determined or caused by a specific factor. Or are there outside forces that influence us. Genetically predisposed to be good at math or good at basketball. We are more complex than just genes to be a determinant for behavior / personality. School of thought in psychology, takes on a cultural determinist position. Any behavior can be learned and taught. We are what previous behavior was reinforced. Invented the law of effect: rewarded behavior is reinforced, do smth and are punished, then less likely to do it again. Humans can be trained through a postive reward system. Superego- represents conscience (religious values, morals, cultural)
