Journalists make livings doing their work all the time instead of teaching undergrads, sitting on curriculum, search, and promotion-and-tenure committees. Journalists fight to keep academic, administrative, bureaucratic, and therapeutic language out of their writing. Tacit knowledge = knowledge so ingrained that we no longer know how we came to know it or even that we know it at all.
