Document Summary

We always refer in modern biography to where this person is coming from: family, education, country of origin. We also look at a development of this person. This is how we in the mod- ern world understand biography. This is how we understand the lives of people to- day. This is not how ancient biographers worked when they were using this kind of literature called biography. They saw people as pretty much fixed in characters. That what they depict about abraham or jesus when he was twelve is the character of jesus as the one we meet later on as an adult: someone who is wise, who walks with god. So we cannot say that the way we understand someone is the same as we would have understood someone else in the ancient world. This is why you do not hear a whole lot about jesus when he was an infant.
