The cover letter argues that the paper is interesting to reader of journal, significant, novel, and important can determine whether it is reviewed or rejected from the beginning. You can only publish one paper to one journal at a time this prevents the paper from being double published. Reject, no review papers not good enough for journal, outside subject area, etc. Reviewers: experts on topic might be asked to recommend them yourself look for people published recently in the topic. A review will usually be: a short summary, a section detailing major issues, and a section detailing minor issues. You have to go comment by comment and explain how you changed the manuscript in response you have to accept the criticism (at least 90% of the time) Final acceptance rate cell: 15%, ecology: 16% rejection without review less common (50% of papers) major revisions or rejection (60-70% of reviewed papers)
