Oak ridges moraine: welly sorted material, 2 lobes meet together then spread apart, many headwaters are found in oak ridges moraine. Linkage: wells create a cone of depression, cone draws water from a larger surface area, makes draining water faster, could cause more contamination. 3 categories of water quality: biological living organisms, chemical inorganic elements in water (metals, nutrients, radiological) and organic elements (synthetic & natural, physical floating sediment. Biological water quality: pathogens = disease-causing organisms, bacteria, protozoa, viruses, also worms, removal of microbes remains the primary objective of drinking water treatment today, chlorination, ozonation, uv radiation, chloramination. Pathogenic organisms in drinking water: generally provoke an acute/immediate/rapid response. Nitrate no3 is the most ubiquitous contaminant in global aquifers: most commonly limiting nutrient for terrestrial plants, enters soil through rain, nitrates nitrites which prevents oxygen from binding to hemoglobin. Arsenic: welly distributed in the earth"s crust, from volcanic rock, treats mood to preserve it, causes cancer.
