Socrates was a turning point in philosophical history. Presocratics held ideals up in the heavens (the physical cosmos) and. Plato notes that god does not philosophize. He gained infamy amongst politicians as he asked men who thought they knew something (meno & virtue) Meno was educated by sophists (sophists were teachers of rhetoric) Meno claims he knows what virtue is and socrates questions it. Even though socrates wins the argument, he has no revelation or definition of virtue. The dialogue with meno ends is aporia (reference note on sept. Plato calls to socrates that the sophists are prostitutes as they bind themselves by accepting monetary compensation as socrates had freedom. Socrates compared himself to a gadfly constantly aggravating. Athens (reference reading notes from section a b) Socrates is very fond of the greek god apollo. He quips know thyself which is from apollo.
