Observations can be of very specific behavior or of more general ratings of behavior. T-data= info obtained from experimental procedures or standardized tests. How long can a child wait calmly in order to get a large reward. How long does it take adults to answer questions on a computerized task. S-data= info provided by the subject himself or herself, typically in the form of a response to questionnaires. Limits of self-reports: people aware of their psychological characteristic, people may e motivated to present themselves positively. Advantages of self reports: convenient, easy to obtain. Main advantage: people know a lot about themselves, easy to collect large amounts of data. Disadvantages: people self-descriptions on questionnaires can be influences by paraphrasing and order of items, people may like or unconsciously distort their reponses.
