PSYCO275 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Fluorescence Microscope, Horseradish Peroxidase
Document Summary
Psyco 275 - lecture #10 - methods in behavioral neuroscience. Nb: i = invasive, ni = non invasive. How does one study brain-behaviour links: destruction of brain-effects on behaviour. What turns off activity or a certain behaviour: loss of function: lesions, 1st level of brain studies. Hippocrates: examined damage to brain and behaviour relationship. Often experimental follow ups on a case study. To see if a particular damaged area was caused the disorder or injury: encountered issues with adaptability of brain. Changing issue: if brain adapted to loss of function by changing itself, could change implications of another disorder: stimulation of brain-effects on behaviour. Eg. a supercharger: gain of function: stimulation. Stimulated certain areas or structures and made the animal go into a rage like phenomena. Interested what his subjects experienced when stimulating a particular part of the brain. But had to be careful not to damage or lose function of a brain area by accident.
