PSYC 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Autism Spectrum
Document Summary
Eccentric because it is contrasting to the typical. Considered harmful to the person or the people that they are around. Superstition - scared of them if their thoughts and behaviours were di erent. Feared and isolated - don"t feel safe coming forward. Second new perspective on health - was bene cial. Idea that abnormal behaviour could be considered a disease - the same way physical problems could be considered a disease. If you had a mental illness that could be cured or treated with treatment plan. Biggest criticism: categorizing people - if you"re a little bit too low on your score then you"re screwed. 3rd criticism: frames mental health as mental illness. Removes a lot of the information and ignores the fact that its a distribution. Only interested in treating people with conditions - not people without. Less and less people have high scores of depression.
