Nrc publication, the nutrient requirements of cats and dogs, is intended to be used by nutrition professionals to help guide formulation of diets. Any scientific support should first go to the nrc. Anything on any macro and micro nutrients. Many nutrients can be highly toxic, such as aa, at high levels. In 2006, nrc tried to align pet recommended intake to human. This is about a 95% confidence interval from the mean. Every nutrient requirement is a general distribution. Adequate intake is about 97. 5% confidence interval from the mean. Pigs are way more homogenous than dogs are, they have a much tighter general distribution. We provide the mean which means we are over supplying 50% of the pigs, the extra nutrients just go down to waste. We go for the mean for agricultural animals, but go for the ai in humans and pets because we want to cover everybody"s requirements. Goal is to make a recommendation that covers everyone"s requirement.
