But the law does not tell us why this is so, for that we need a theory. Hypothesis is a human mental construction that provides a preliminary casual explanation of a set of facts. Theory is a more mature, more complex and more wide-ranging human mental construction than a hypothesis. Theories also provide casual explanations of the world and are used to predict future behaviour. Theory or hypothesis that is repeatedly confirmed is provisionally accepted. Theory or hypothesis that is overwhelmingly invalidated is rejected (falsifiability) Until it is unproved and a more accurate theory is developed. "i(cid:374)(cid:448)isi(cid:271)le (cid:271)oot" ki(cid:272)ks out ideas that do(cid:374)"t (cid:449)o(cid:396)k. Individual scientists may be less objective than we would like them to be. Scientists generally do not repeat experiments to verify if they actually work.
