Women"s relationship with family is often different than men"s. More intimately associated with nurturing and childrearing tasks. Most women in this age range are at work. Women" experience of aging is different than men"s. Couples review their marriages and work out mew arrangements. The relationship with their children changes as the children move from adolescence into young adulthood. Must renegotiate their couple system as a dyad, or pair, rather than as part of a larger family. Couples who have stayed together for the sake of the children. May occur because of adult children"s separation, divorce, job loss, or inability to make it on their own. Children who never leave, but establish their new families as co-residents in family home.
