Islamic history lecture two thurs/sept 11. Very clearly a religious site pre-islamic pagan. Islam being the new faith some of the old practices get absorbed by the new faith. *umayya branch & abbas family are quite prominent in the tribe. Was born around the year 570 in mecca. Comes from the quraysh tribe (an influential tribe in mecca, settled in 4th/6th century) Quraysh are merchants and engaged in commerce: powerful because they control trade routes in and out of mecca. Comes from this tribe, but from a less influential clan within this tribe *hashimite. Believed god"s words were revealed to him through angels. First told his wife then his cousin and some future followers. Believed that his messages were god"s words coming directly out of him. After his death these words were recorded and written down and that is today referred to as the qur"an.
