Santour (santur): a chordophone and a zither (strings stretched over a resonator); 72 strings tuned to have 27 diff pitches (incl. microtones and more than one octave); played with mezrabs (wooden hammers) ); based on a particular maqam & may hear microtones in the vocals. Mahur maqam (refers to place: a hill ); sounds major to our ears, melodic type. Demonstrates ability of the performer (due to speed) idea of professionalism & Is composed, metric and instrumental performer as in service of others; ego might be perceived as negative. Kamancheh: spiked, bowed, upright fiddle, a chordophone and a lute, has gourds at the bottom, has 4 strings; precursor to rebab (played by egyptian bards as carriers of history through poetry and music) Tasnif: composed and metric; a full ensemble (usually a small one) & piece may have a partially improvised introduction in free rhythm. Whirling dervishes 1, 2 or 3 (elements of musiqi but ritualistic & recitation of religious text)
