Document Summary
Social contract theory: people"s (cid:448)ie(cid:449)s/(cid:373)o(cid:396)als a(cid:396)e depe(cid:374)de(cid:374)t upo(cid:374) a(cid:374) ag(cid:396)ee(cid:373)e(cid:374)t (contract) among the society they live in; we all agree that it is a social obligation to follow the law. There is a lot more of citizens than the rule makers/enforcers (judges, police, government); we could easily over throw these people. Rational self interests dictates that we should all agree to behave morally to each other (hey! I promise not to steal your stuff and in retu(cid:396)(cid:374) you do(cid:374)"t steal (cid:373)y stuff. Cool. (cid:895: basically this is why we put ourselves under the law and why it is rational to do so. Hobbes argues why its bad to have too much freedom in society because its rational to follow the law and have laws. The us has people who argue against universal health care (why should i be fo(cid:396)(cid:272)ed to pay fo(cid:396) health(cid:272)a(cid:396)e, if i get si(cid:272)k i"ll deal (cid:449)ith it(cid:895) seems a bit irrational.
