Document Summary
Neo-classical realism: neo-classical realism brings together the belief in the importance of the international state system and the relative power of states with a belief in the importance of statecraft/leadership and foreign policy. Foreign policy takes place within the confines of the international system. So they maintain the moral responsibility of statecraft (classical realism) They argue that the international system gives room for statecraft. The relative distribution of power sets parameters; it is not deterministic. Hard components are the economic and military aspects of power. Soft components comprise the cultural dimensions or the values that define the identity and practices of a state. Soft power can attract people to your international agenda. Nye: balance of power and hegemony: how does nye"s conception of power challenge the realist and neorealist understandings of balance of power and hegemony, nye focuses less on military power and formal alliances.
