Political parties representation of the provinces in the central institutions of government (bakvis and tanguay) Riker: symmetrical party systems at the provincial and federal level lead to e ective representation. Provinces are training ground; provincial politicians tend to focus less on regional issues because they have national ambitions. Federal politicians because they"ve once been a part of provincial politics are likely to be sensitive to regional/provincial issues. Only ndp has a party structure that links the provincial and federal parties. Depends on the historical time frame you"re looking at. Born in ontario 1956 ; family moved to alberta. Dad played 5 games in the nhl in the 1940s. Joined the federal progressive conservative party in 1976. Worked as a coal miner to put himself through university became a lawyer. Ran for the provincial progressive conservative party in 1986 and lost.
