What is learning: acquiring and retaining new. Information (knowing that)//learning to that that things that knowing that the titanic was a big ship that sank a while bad, factual information and a dozen eggs = Learning to drive, and basic skills and bodily functions. What are the different ways we learn? (don"t need to know for exams) 1. associative learning-consequences of actions: classical conditioning, operant conditioning. 2. social learning: observational learning, play, enculturation, dialogic learning. Roots of learning theory: behaviourism- a movement in psychology in the early 1900s that was a reaction to pscyholanalsys and introspection. Classical conditioning: conditioning- training or shaping, conditioning- the process of learning associations between events and behavioural responses, classical conditioning: a type of learning where we learn to associate two stimuli to anticipate events. Thought to be the process behind acquisition of phobias: there types of responses-we can be biologically prepared- react different to different things- ie scared because you see a snake scary.
