PSYC 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Short-Term Memory, Long-Term Memory, Echoic Memory
Document Summary
Memory: persistence of learning over time through storage and retrieval of info and skills. Recall: analogous to fill in the blanks. Relearning: how much less work it takes you to learn info u studied before even without recalling seeing it before. Encoding: info gets into our brains in a way that allows to be stored. Storage: info is held in a way that allows it to later be retrieved. Retrieval: reactivating and recalling the info, producing it in form similar to was encoded. 1- stimuli recorded by senses and held briefly in sensory memory. 2- some info processed into short term and encoded thru rehearsal, also called working memory. Info then moves into long-term to be retrieved later. 4- some info goes straight form sensory input (1) to longterm (3)called automatic processing. Some stimuli encountered picked up by senses and processed by sensory organs this generates info which enters sensory memory.
