Why might the study of genes and personality be controversial: ideology: perhaps certain political agendas may be served if we identified specific genes that go with a personality standpoint. Also interested in the ways in which genes and environment correlate with each other, where in the environment the effects are taking place. Heritability: amount of phenotypic variance in a group due to genotype variance, proportion of observed variance in a group in a group of individuals that can be accounted for by genetic variance. Phenotypic variance: observable variability (ex. eye colour, height, level of a certain personality trait) Genotypic variance: individual differences in people"s genes genetic variance. Heritability of 0. 50 means 50% of observed phenotypic variance is due to. Environmentality: amount of observed variance in a group of individuals due to environment. Heritability refers to differences in a sample of population and not just a individual. Heritability is not constant if environment changes then heritability changes.
