Mechanism- physiological, physical, cognitive process that trigger behaviour @ time they are performing that behaviour. Developmental causes (ontogeny) - the processes that cause that mechanism to develop within ivnvduals lifetime. Occurs over the history of the individual. Function- effect on reproductive success (rs) - why have a proximate mechanism that causes that behaviour ? eatings effect on rs is it provides the nutrients so u can have babies.
