Class and gender differences in experiences of education. Film clip: michael kimmel the boy crisis. Boys are more likely to be suspended, expelled etc. , more likely to commit suicide. Girls are getting further in school and getting better grades. Its not just more girls and fewer boys in university, its just that more people are going to higher education in general. Girls tend to underestimate abilities and boys tend to overestimate their abilities. Idea of single sex public schools (there is no empirical evidence that students perform better with a teacher of their same sex) These solutions perpetuate stereotypes all girl schools, all boy schools. We are being asked to teach to stereotypes not to our children . Educational attainment among women increased significantly/more rapidly than men. In 2010 across oecd countries, 42% of women and 33% had university degrees (age 25-34) Women have more successful completions of university degrees, still underrepresented among graduates in certain fields (stem fields)
