Guest speaker - slut walk creator + other notes. 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted. 1 in 6 men will be sexually assaulted. Victim blaming- clothing, reputation, upset someone, actions or behaviours. Slut shaming- sexually degrading, and discriminating against someone- teenage girl happens all the time. 2011- toronto police stated at university that females need to dress appropriately. Slutwalk was created to throw these terms back to the public- everyone participates. 200 cities organized such events- cultures, languages, experiences. Language conveys ideas- huge problem- address language at the heart of the issue- not about the words but the message behind it. Only people who are on the receiving end of the words are able to rede ne it- different sources have different outcomes. Less than 2% of the offenders actually get convicted. Find someone who you trust then go from there. Once, mental problems were seen as acts of godss, in particular, epilepsy.
