Victims family would want the ultimate punishment: judgment: Life sentence with no chance of parole for 40 years - one of the longest sentences in. Toughest sentence in canada since the country"s last execution. 60 years old before his rst eligible for parole. 8 year sentence- 4 years spent in columbia, some year in custody and some years under house arrest (living with a family of 5 and is not allowed to leave their house). Denunciation- teaches wrongdoers about society"s norms and sets an example. We want to achieve a lot of different things when sentencing. More people are more likely to want to rehabilitate youth; remove adults. General public has deterrence as a top priority. Some objectives don"t work well together- rehabilitation and separating offender from society. Punishment doesn"t depend on what may happen in the future.
