Summary gastrulation so far: different stages of gene regulation, gene regulation involves many different aspects, where and when and in what amounts is rna present, germ layers. Gastrulation in sea urchin (a) egg (b) vegetal pole is starting to flatten. Vegetal plate is the first indication of gastrulation. Endo/mesoderm are at the bottom (about 1000 cells, 10-12 divisions/cell cycles). Once the vegetal plate has formed, separate areas are set up. They also have cilia at this point and are able to swim around. Can also take some colour and add that to part of the embryo, then you can see where the cells are ending up (paint and colour the cells). (c) beginning of gastrulation. These cells are a small group of cells that are forming in the vegetal region of the embryo. Will see very well under a microscope. (d) primary mesenchyme cells.
