BIOL 2410 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Choroid Plexus, Cerebrospinal Fluid, Arachnoid Mater
Document Summary
Neuron physiology vii - organization of the cns. Fluids in the brain include blood, the interstitial uid that bathes the neurons and cerebrospinal uid. Hydrocephalous - build up of cerebral spinal uid. Cerebral spinal uid should be clear, if its any other colour an infection has occured. Cerebrospinal uid lls the ventricles and the central canal of the spinal cord. Cells here actively pump electrolytes from the plasma into the ventricles. Csf circulates form the ventricles into the subarachnoid space existing the brain via apertures. Upward projections of the arachnoid mater into the venous sinus provide a site of exchange between the csf and the blood. Allows the csf to be completely replenished 3 times per day. Prevents the brain form sticking the skull bones on impact. With some exception the capillaries int he brain are formed form endothelial cells joined by tight junctions. Ordinary capillaries are quite leaky in order to allow for exchange between blood and tissues.
