Unit 5: immune system (e: the adaptive immune system: Ex: hepatocytes have mhc1: mhcii: only present in the membrane of antigen presenting cells; immune cells. It undergoes mitosis and each cell produced is the exact same. There are 5 different types of fc regions (iga, igg, igd, ige, igm: variety based on fc regions: Pentamer (it"s very effective because it can bind to 10 antigens) It is very large, so it remains in the blood vessels. It"s the first antibody produced in response to foreign materials (no matter where the antigen is encountered) It switches during class switching to a more appropriate antibody. It"s a dimer (binds to 4 antigens) It"s effective in neutralizing pathogens that are able to move past mucosal membranes. Note: it is better to administer vaccines based on the mode in which the infection is encountered. Iga is made in the digestive tract, respiratory tract and reproductive tract. It"s a monomer (only binds to 2 antigens)
