Gerontology a branch of science that directly deals with the broad study of the aging process from the onset of maturity to death. It is a multidisciplinary field including biological, sociological, psychological, and economical perspectives. Gerontologists utilize multidisciplinary concepts and approaches in an attempt to understand all aspects of complex aging process. Geriatrics a branch of specialized medicine (health care) that deals with medical care and treadtment of elderly people. Geriatricians are primarily concerned with the health, care, diseases, and treatment of older adults. They take a holistic approach that accounts for many factors of the elderly patients such as health, comfort, treatments, living conditions, etc. 3 main academic areas that have contributed to gerontology include: Biological aging concerned with longevity: how/why body changes with age, demographics of aging, neuropsychology of aging, medical gerontology. Psychological aging concerned with adaptive capabilities (memory) as well as behaviour (attitudes, motivation, emotions)
