Age specific death rate for male and females in canada (2013) Mortality rate (r/x) -> rate at which certain populations die. Linear form indicates that there are mechanisms that play a systematic role in death: le will bottom out around 85yo in a developed country if chronic diseases are not cured. Even if chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, cv and stroke are cured, le will only increase by ~ 15 years: this indicates that environmental factors play a major role in le and why le max lifespan. If we genetically slow down aging, we could make le = mls. Includes data on size, density, and geography of pop. Includes vital statistics on births, deaths, diseases, marriages, etc. Survivorship curves -> graphical representations of the difference between birth/death, or typical end of aging : data is taken from life tables. This is the most common (% survivors (lx) vs age) Ideal death is accident, disease, and violence free.
