Law can limit how much social change is implemented. Situations of resistance to change are more abundant than those of acceptance. Often resisted because it con icts with traditional values. Vested interests - change resisted by individuals who may lose power, prestige or wealth should a new proposal gain acceptance (exp communities to protect their neighbourhood) Social class - people in lower class are expected to obey the upper class (in highly strati ed societies), and therefore more likely that the upper class will follow the status quo. Ideological resistance - religious or cultural ideologies that resist change (exp religious fundamentalists to same sex marriage or doctors to medicare) Organized opposition - individual resistance into a group effort. Habit - once a habit is established it becomes satisfying to the individual. Motivation - desire for wealth or prestige in uences the changes you make. Ignorance - fear of the new, anti-discriminatory laws etc.
