England - roaming courts, people would come in on horse back (this may be why the judge is set higher than the rest of the court) Public forum - helps to tell the public that the action is wrong, avoid crime in the future. Private dispute - despite between two private individuals/entities. Public-initiated dispute - charges pressed from the govnt. Cops arrest you (you are the accused) Govnt wants to enforce a certain type of behaviour. You have a problem with govnt - typically ccrf cases. Appellate courts (make case law, new case law comes out of here) Only looking at matter of law = proper interpretation of the law. Entire organization and rest of court is from the provincial level. Can make judgements on tribunals (goes from a tribunal to here, skips the provincial court level) One shotter - there rarely = typically individuals(have a lot riding on that case)
