The sociological imagination: wright mills (1916-1961, he wrote the book sociological imagination in 1959, one of the most widely read sociology books of all time. Main ideas: an individual"s personal troubles and public issues in a society can be linked together through the (cid:498)sociological imagination(cid:499). Individuals can only understand their own experiences fully if the y locate themselves within their period of history. Examples: why are people unemployed, the economy is bad- not a lot of jobs. Or he/she lacks qualifications or skills for the jobs. He may doesn"t want to work. (e could have a disability/illness. Discrimination may prevent him from getting a job. He may have other obligations that prevent shim from having a job. The type of solution differs significantly depending on the type of problem (social or individual solution). At the time of our grandparents when farming was prevalent, no one attended university. 100years ago you would not be attending university.
