This week, we"ll address some common misconceptions about poetry and explore what a poem can be and do. You"ll have the chance to vote on poems and find poems that you like (and dislike, as well). We introduce the most popular kind of poem among contemporary poets and the "standard" poem for the course--the lyric poem. The last half of the module features a series of videos that breaks down the lyric poem into its components. By the end of the online module and in-class session, you will be able to: Distinguish the difference between "good" poems and poems you "like" Identify the qualities and parts of a lyric poem.
