Lecture #6: ch. 2 continued: learning theories (behavioural, cognitive theories: (1) piaget (old), (2) vygotsky, and (3) information processing (best theory, describing whats in the mind) Bandura is also considered a cognitive theories because of the self efficacy: piaget"s cognitive-developmental theory (concepts in bold) (txt book will have a lot more info in him, just study what is in the class) Piaget was interested in investigating how humans logically reason from infancy to adolescence. Piaget believed that maturation (fancy world for age) or age set the parameters for what was possible in terms of logical thinking (nature). Piaget stated that humans sort information acquired from everyday discovery into their mental schemas. According to piaget, our minds consist of an infinite number of schemas, which guide how we perceive, interpret, explore, and understand our expereinces. Finally, piaget stated that information we acqure from our everyday experiences is either assimilated or accommodated into our schemes.
