Document Summary
Wind is important method of heat transfer (particularly in sensible heat. From regions of high pressure to regions of low pressure. Wind speed is measured by the speed by kilometers per hour or knots. Wind direction --> named from whence they come (e. g. easterly wind flows east to west and vice versa) Pressure: amount of force exerted by gas molecules per unit surface area --> how much weight the atmosphere is pushing down on, and which direction it is pushing in. Barometer is used to measure air pressure --> the height of rise of the mercury in the tube measures the air pressure. If the air parcel is pressing down, the pressure would be high underneath, whilst if the air parcel was going upwards the pressure would be low underneath. Units: pascal/pa (however important to note that in canada, the unit kilopascals/kpa may be used = this is essentially 1000.
