Melanin production, epidermal hyperplasia (thick, leathery skin) Photo-aging : long-term sun exposure leads to (mainly uva ) Possible effects: wrinkling, dryness, atrophy, splotchy areas of hypo/hyper-pigmentation, telangiectasia, solar elastosis, solar lentigo, solar keratosis. Early inflammatory phase : noticeable 2-12 hours post-uv exposure, peaks in 20-48 hours. Delayed repair phase : slowly subsides over next 3-5 days. Symptoms : itching, edema, pain, dryness, peeling, blistering, fever, n/v, chills, abdominal cramps, headache. Refer : severe sunburns (e. g. blistering), systemic symptoms, children <12 years old. Apply cool water soaks/compresses for 20 min 4-6 times/day promote evaporation. Cause: decreased or absent mechanisms for heat loss. Symptoms : hyperthermia, agitation, restlessness, confusion, rapid pulse, hot/dry/red skin, staggering gait, seizures; may lead to loss of consciousness. Remove excess clothing, sponge with tepid water (no ice bath)
