Document Summary
Enduring change in neural mechanisms underlying behaviour because of experience with environment. Studied digestion and juices for about 20 years. Hook up to apparatus-stomach juices, drip into beakers. Noticed: started with dog surgery harness food cylinder for saliva. After a while- already salivating before food is brought in. When you get up, when you hook them up. Anticipating food- pavlov said they are not because there is no point in measuring thoughts and feelings. Ie lightning and thunder, tone and food (tone rang before the dogs get food) Neutral stimulus paired with stimulus that produces effect. Neutral stimulus eventually comes to be associated with the reflex. Ie. tone, harness began to make the dogs salivate. Bell rings no response (may turn to look but neutral response regarding salivation) Less conditioning- predicting what will go next, adaptive. After associated with unconditioned stimuli, comes to trigger conditioned response. Increase intensity of behaviour if conditioned stimuli is presented alone.
