Document Summary
Instinct theory fails to explain the motives of humans so was replaced by the drive reduction theory: drive reduction theory focuses on our inner pushes and are external pulls interact the idea that a physiological need creates an aroused tension state (a drive) that motivates and organism to satisfy their needs. for example: eating or drinking homeostasis is applied with this concept. Our bodies regulate weight through the control of food intake, energy output and basal metabolic rate: some researchers say that our bodies have a pre set tendency to maintain optimum weight, however, other researchers doubt that and say that we don"t have a pre set tendency to maintain optimum weight, slow changes in body weight can alter one"s set point, and psychological factors also drive our feelings of hunger (assanand et al. , 1998, unlimited access to a variety of tasty food, people tend to over eat and gain weight (raynor & einstein, 2001)
