Where we work to present an idealized image to our audience. Where we can relax the performance - be ourselves. Where members of the audience are absent. Performance of femininity at the dinner table: Smaller and carefully constructed bites, ate more slowly, used their napkins more precisely and more frequently, improved posture. Through socialization you develop ways of thinking and action, often automatic or unconscious. People are socialized differently depending on their social location (social status or class). Tastes and dispositions related to higher status positions are recognized and rewarded. Learning the right kind of language, knowledge, practices that are viewed in a society as correct or desirable is a resource that helps you gain social power and respect.
