Perspectives on human population have changed over time. Pop. growth results from better technology, sanitation, and food: death rates drop as birth rates increase. Optimistic like to believe growth is not an issue: new resources will replace depleted ones, but some resources (ex. Others believe quality of life will suffer with any more increased growth: less food, space, wealth per person. Policymakers believe growth increases, economic, political, military strength (ex. Decrease in population or stagnation results in social programs/services (ex. Refugees flee their home countries as result of war, civil unrest, environmental degradation: movement of large masses of people causes environmental problems with no incentives to conserve resources. All population principles apply to humans: environmental factors limit population growth.
