Document Summary

Fasting blood glucose (not a random glucose test) Type 1 no insulin production at all: there are grades of secretion of insulin however. Type 2 insulin is getting secreted, but cells are not allowing insulin to enter: receptors may be functioning abnormally. First image we see the normal function: pancreas secretes insulin, which binds to receptors that allow glucose to enter the cells. Type 1 middle image: glucose is outside of the cell, cannot enter due to insulin not being produced, no energy can be produced. Type 2 last image: resistance of insulin, cannot respond to insulin and glucose, can eat & still be tired since there is a loss of energy. The threshold level has to be exceeded: earlier days glucose was monitored around 120, now it is around. Used to just be fasting blood glucose, however we now have hb1ac. Thresholds are different in other countries *
