Increase of fat mass by adipocyte hyperplasia or hypertrophy: hyperplasia = enlargement of an organ or tissue that results from cell proliferation, hypertrophy = enlargement of an organ or tissue from the increase in size of its cells. Set limit of glycogen we can store, acetyl coa increases, it is diverted and created fa"s, then creates tag"s and goes into adipocyte. Sadly, can get hyperplasia, results from cell proliferation: can have precursor adipocyte and get more adipocytes, also, can combine both processes! Subcutaneous adipose tissues only expand by hypertrophy: visceral adipose tissues can expand through hypertrophy and hyperplasia. Adipose tissue: ct scan at the level of the belly button, b = visceral fat in white, c = subcutaneous fat in white. Visceral vs subcutaneous fat obesity: ct scan at level of belly button. Right = subcutaneous fat obesity: better prognostic. It secretes hormones, if obese, diff regulation of hormones in body.
