He married in 1838 to his cousin emma wedgwood (1808-1896) He abandons his studies in medicine and takes a more serious interest in religion (cambridge u): prerequisite to become a pastor: bachelor of arts. Became interested in nature: taxidermy, insects collecting, botany, etc. In 1831, he leaves on the beagle, a ship commissioned by the british government to (cid:272)artograph(cid:455) the outh a(cid:373)eri(cid:272)a"s (cid:272)oast. Darwin was invited on board as a companion of the captain fitzroy but quickly became the naturalist of the voyage. He travels the world and spends most of his time on land to sample the fauna and flora and to study the south american geology. The voyage was planned for 2 years but lasted 5.
